Biohof Pratsch Grüner Veltliner 2016

Biohof Pratsch Grüner Veltliner 2016

Biohof Pratsch is a solid producer, both in terms of the winery's commitment to environmental stewardship and in price, it's always an excellent value. The 2016 Grüner Veltliner is awash in billowy aromas of pear, lime blossom, and lemon thyme. In the mouth, the frame is wonderfully light and lean, minerality contributes as much to palate tension as this wine’s native high acidity. Oyster shell, salt, and white grapefruit emerge at the close. Sample Biohof Pratsch 8.9 Points...

Pratsch Rotenspüllen Grüner Veltliner 2015

Biohof Pratsch Rotenspüllen Grüner Veltliner 2015

I've long been a fan of Biohof Pratsch—aside from their commitment to organic farming, their wines are also an outstanding value. Softly textured on the nose and palate, with gently wafting aromas of white peach, honeysuckle, wet stones and lemon curd. Medium-bodied and round, one can expect balanced acidic lift followed by a streak of minerality, lemon pith and a sprinkling of Grüner Veltliner's signature white pepper. Summer in a glass. 13.5% ABV | Sample Pratsch 9.0 Points  ...

Gobelsburger Kamptal Grüner Veltliner 2013

Gobelsburger has lots to offer for it's modest $13-15 price tag. The Kamptal Grüner Veltliner 2013 has an attractive nose of lychee, honeydew melon, pear and just a touch of matchstick. Melon notes really come through on the palate, with bright, zingy acidity and a nice savory edge—fresh marjoram, lime zest and a spicy hit of white pepper. What's not to love? Perfectly with spring dishes, think asparagus, dishes with lots of fresh herbs, and salads featuring arugula or mesclun. Weingut Schloss Gobelsburg 8.9 Points...

Nikolaihof Gelber Muskateller 2012

Nikolaihof Gelber Muskateller 2012

Muskateller is an old variety, and something of a rarity. Plantings of this ancient grape account for little than 1% of Austria's overall annual production. Why should this be? If found the Nikolaihof Gelber Muskateller 2012 to be a delightful, expressive white, offering up profusion of orange blossom, mint, sweet marjoram, and nutmeg. It bears some resemblance to Muscat on the palate, with perhaps more pronounced minerality. Round and silky, it glides on to a lengthy finish trussed in spring herbs.
