Weingut Schäfer-Fröhlich Dry Rosé 2016

Weingut Schäfer-Fröhlich Dry Rosé 2016

Spring is on the way. Heirloom rose petal pink, Weingut Schäfer-Fröhlich's 2016 Dry Rosé opens with vivid aromas of delicately spiced pie cherries, strawberries and apple blossom. Medium-bodied, this fresh organic rosé of Pinot Noir features a lean, tensile acid spine that crescendos with a burst of delicious pit fruit bitterness and oyster shell. 11.6% ABV | Sample Weingut Schäfer-Fröhlich 88 Points  ...

Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese 2014

Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese 2014

Apricot, peach pit, lemon drop, and tennis ball on the nose. Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler's 2014 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese slightly oily on the palate—this is, in my view a positive descriptor, held in check by an swirling undercurrent acidity that keeps it in balance. That classic kerosene-tennis ball note remerges on this wine's lengthy finish, along with peach pit and green tea, a combination of flavors that lends complexity to a sensation of pleasant bitterness. 9.0% ABV | Sample Weingut Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler 9.0 Points  ...

Weingut Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef Riesling 2016

Weingut Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef Riesling 2016

Lemon zest, apricot, pear, honeycomb and spice, the 2016 Weingut Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef Riesling is lush and languid on entry. It unfurls at a leisurely pace, pierced only by a singular, racy vein of acidity followed by a burst of saline and pink grapefruit tipped minerality. An excellent value. 10.0% ABV | Sample Weingut Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch 8.8 Points...

Weingut Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Kabinett 2016

Weingut Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Kabinett 2016

The sweeter side of Kabinett, the 2016 Weingut Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Kabinett is classic offers up notes of yellow apple, white peach, honey, and wafting tennis ball. In the mouth, it's full and lush, unfurling at a deceptively languid place with a burst of energy and spritz at the close. Underripe pineapple gives way to candied white grapefruit and hint on minerally-petrol that reemerges with unexpected power. 8.2% ABV | Sample  Weingut Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch 9.1 Points ...

Bollig-Lehnert Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Kabinett 2014

Bollig-Lehnert Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Kabinett 2014

Perhaps the most thrilling aspect of the 2014 Bollig-Lehnert Trittenheimer Apotheke Kabinett Riesling is the mouth-tingling interplay of salinity and acid set against a backdrop of unctuous yellow peach and apricot. It delivers the palate tension that just goes on and on, with a mouthwatering burst of lime zest and green tea. An outstanding Mosel Riesling for its price point. 8.0% ABV | sample Bollig-Lehnert Winery 9.3 Points...

Weingut Dr.Pauly-Bergweiler Dry Riesling 2015

Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler Dry Riesling 2015

Demure nose—a pretty bouquet of spring blossoms, lemon drop, and white peaches. What the 2015 Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler Dry Riesling lacks in aromatic vim, it makes up for on the palate, which full and round on entry with a surprisingly punchy burst of white grapefruit and lemon pith that ricochets through the core. Finishes with a delightful lick of salty minerals at the close. 11.0% ABV | Sample Weingut Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler 8.9 Points...

Loosen Bros Dr. L Riesling 2013

Loosen Bros Dr. L Riesling 2013

Loosen Bros Dr. L Riesling is a unquestionably quaffable for a mere $11-$12. While not as intense or complex as more expensive offerings from the Mosel, what you can expect are lush aromas of apricot, clover honey, lemon drop and a classic though faint top note of kerosene. It's off-dry with lots of mouth-coating viscosity and even a subtle hint of slatey minerality wending its way through denser layers of poached pear, cling peaches and pink grapefruit pith. 43.2 g/l RS  8.5% ABV Weingut Dr. Loosen 8.7 Points...

Dönnhoff Nahe Oberhäuser Leistenberg Kabinett Riesling 2011

Dönnhoff Nahe Oberhäuser Leistenberg Kabinett Riesling 2011

I have long loved Dönnhoff, and will continue to extoll its virtues. The Nahe Oberhäuser Leistenberg Kabinett Riesling 2011 is simply put, a pulse-quickening example, with complex aromas of white flowers, Asian pear, shale, mint, and clover honey. On the palate, a tensile, arching backbone interlaced with peach pit and white grapefruit pith adds tension to shale-driven minerality. It's got a wholly appealing, racy, slightly bitter edge delicately rimmed in sea salt. In addition, fantastic length. Weingut Dönnhoff  9.1 Points...

Meulenhof Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese Alte Reben 2012

Meulenhof Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese Alte Reben 2012

Rich and unctuous, the Meulenhof Mosel Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese Alte Reben 2012 is ripe, juicy apricot, golden Opal apple and paraffin, a twinkling top note of kerosene. Soft and silky on entry, with a medium level of acidity that leans towards bright citrus fruit, candied lemon peel and dried pineapple. I found my self looking for only just a little more acidity and mineral verve, that being said, the finish is reasonably lengthy. Overall, a delightful Spätlese. 8.0% ABV Weingut Meulenhof 9.0 Points...

Max Ferd. Richter Mülheimer Sonnenlay Riesling Kabinett 2000

Max Ferd. Richter Mülheimer Sonnenlay Riesling Kabinett 2000

This Max Ferd. Richter Mülheimer Sonnenlay Riesling Kabinett 2000 has aged gracefully, which is good news for Riesling lovers, since this Mosel gem sells for under $15.00 in the US. On the nose, the merest hint of petrol, but mostly there is fruit; dried pineapple, dried apricot, and delicate citrus. It’s round and full on the palate, with a nice tang of acidity that ends on a Snapple iced tea note along with modest mineral tension. A fine pairing with Baja Fish Tacos, the recipe can be found on Epicurious. Max Ferd. Richter 9.0 Points...
