Weingut Schäfer-Fröhlich Dry Rosé 2016

Weingut Schäfer-Fröhlich Dry Rosé 2016

Spring is on the way. Heirloom rose petal pink, Weingut Schäfer-Fröhlich's 2016 Dry Rosé opens with vivid aromas of delicately spiced pie cherries, strawberries and apple blossom. Medium-bodied, this fresh organic rosé of Pinot Noir features a lean, tensile acid spine that crescendos with a burst of delicious pit fruit bitterness and oyster shell. 11.6% ABV | Sample Weingut Schäfer-Fröhlich 88 Points  ...

Dönnhoff Nahe Oberhäuser Leistenberg Kabinett Riesling 2011

Dönnhoff Nahe Oberhäuser Leistenberg Kabinett Riesling 2011

I have long loved Dönnhoff, and will continue to extoll its virtues. The Nahe Oberhäuser Leistenberg Kabinett Riesling 2011 is simply put, a pulse-quickening example, with complex aromas of white flowers, Asian pear, shale, mint, and clover honey. On the palate, a tensile, arching backbone interlaced with peach pit and white grapefruit pith adds tension to shale-driven minerality. It's got a wholly appealing, racy, slightly bitter edge delicately rimmed in sea salt. In addition, fantastic length. Weingut Dönnhoff  9.1 Points...

Dönnhoff Felsenberg Riesling Grosses Gewachs 2012

Dönnhoff Felsenberg Riesling Grosses Gewachs 2012

Gorgeous, aromatic nose on the Felsenberg GG 2012—it is a different animal as compared with the Dellchen I reviewed earlier—it opens with notes of dried apricot, kerosene, white flowers and a top note of blanched almond. Full and lush on entry, with glycerol up-front leading into Asian pear, lemon drop, and chalk. While not as lean and mineral-driven as the Dellchen, this is a different expression of Riesling, equally worthy of praise. The finish is outstanding, punctuated by saline and minerals. 13.5% ABV Weingut Dönnhoff Bahnhofstraße 9.3 Points...

Dönnhoff Dellchen Riesling Grosses Gewachs 2012

Dönnhoff Dellchen Riesling Grosses Gewachs 2012

The 2012 Dönnhoff Niederhauser Dellchen Grosses Gewachs (GG) is Focused with a driving intensity. The nose is not intensely aromatic, but then, this wine is slightly cold: freshly cut green apple, fresh spearmint, lemon thyme. On the palate, it feels bone dry, despite some silky glycerol that adds weight and body. The backbone is tersely electric. Tension amid terroir-driven notes of calcareous soil, wet sea shell, fleur de sel, dried pear, pink grapefruit rind all leading into a mouthwatering finish.
